Washington, meet mountain biking. Mountain biking, meet Washington

Bush gets a bike for Christmas

The National Bike Summit was recently held in Washington, DC, and IMBA led a charge of over 500 riders making their voices heard. One of the key initiatives that mountain biking delegates supported is the Centennial Initiative, which proposes a funding increase of $100 million per year for ten years to be directed toward restoring and revitalizing national parks. The IMBA has thrown the weight of its membership in support of the initiative, issuing an “action alert” asking for mountain bikers to voice their desire for improvements in the quality of national parks.

Although this isn’t the first time that the voices of mountain bikers have been heard in Washington, it is certainly a good sign that this year saw record attendance levels for mountain biking delegates. If this sort of action really does open new trails, and preserve and refresh existing ones, then it certainly deserves the support of the dirt community.
